Before long-term missions abroad, you need to be sure that your employees are healthy – that’s why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has chosen more thorough health checks. We talked about our experience with Elery Rooba, a specialist in the Foreign Ministry‘s human resources department. Pictured is the 2023 World Cleanup Day at the Siselinna Cemetery.

Employee peace of mind

According to Elery Rooba, expectations for occupational health at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have always been higher than usual. “We have always had very thorough health checks to make sure that our employees can perform their duties abroad. Especially since the missions last several years,” explains Rooba. This is why abdominal ultrasounds and stress tests are particularly valued among HeBA services. It is important that people feel confident that their health is fine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also values the opportunity for both employees and employers to personally consult with an occupational health doctor. Especially from the employer’s perspective, it is important that communication is direct and easy. “I have always received quick answers to all my problems and questions,” Rooba praises.

The visit is seen more as a bonus - people are interested and ask themselves when the next time is.

Health check-ups as an employee bonus

In addition to technical convenience, Rooba also appreciates how every employee feels welcome at the HeBA clinic. “We have received feedback that HeBA has a cozy and friendly reception – and everything fits on one floor. This creates a feeling that the patient is truly cared for,” he says. Occupational health care, if it is of high quality, is no longer a tedious obligation, but an opportunity to show the employee that they are valued. “The visit is seen more as a bonus – people are interested and ask when the next time is,” says Rooba. There have also been cases where worrying health indicators have been discovered during a health check-up, for which employees have been grateful.

Working hours gained

It is also important for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the occupational health service is easy to manage. HeBA Clinic uses the AI-powered digital HeBA platform, which brings everything together: booking appointments, information related to the visit, creating and sending the health check decision to the employer. The employer can access the platform themselves to see up-to-date information at any time. The automated IT system replaces Excel paperwork and reduces the time spent on employee management. The HeBA platform has been a major improvement. “Adding new people, scheduling health checks and downloading decisions are all just a few clicks away,” Rooba appreciates the convenience. “You no longer have to search for employee information one by one, but the HeBA platform brings everything together: both information exchange and scheduling.” The cooperation between HeBA Clinic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been successful, both in terms of employee experience and administrative aspects. Together, we can continue to ensure that the health of Estonian representatives is taken care of. You can read more about the HeBA clinic’s occupational health service here.
